Abstract:
Currently existing technology is capable of detecting arcing conditions in low voltage installations. The Arc Fault Detection has been developed to increase the protection of these installations against electrical fires. The capability of the Arc Fault Detection Devices to detect series arc faults is verified with different test methods and criteria in the corresponding UL and IEC standards. The purpose of this work is to review and evaluate these test criteria by comparing the results with experiments and simulation. Alternative criteria are considered and concrete proposals of improvement are made.
