Abstract:
Successfully rising to the energy-transition challenge requires transforming the electricity transmission model. The outdated, one-way, linear, passive approach is now evolving towards an open, interactive, interconnected model. This transformation has been made possible by exponential improvements in information and communications technology. The new approach combines traditional infrastructure with intelligent digital solutions to create intelligent networks known as “smart grids”. These networks can optimise power generation and distribution in real time in line with consumption to ensure a stable, reliable supply of electricity and a cleaner energy mix through the use of renewable sources, at affordable prices.
