Abstract:
In this paper we investigate a power efficient reporting algorithm for M2M data transmission, which is especially suited for non-delay critical services. The algorithm provides an attempt to solve the problem of temporarily bad coverage for mobile M2M applications. In particular, the enhanced algorithm will check the signal quality, which is measured on the downlink common pilot channel, against a threshold before starting to transmit the M2M data report in the uplink. With this approach non-successful transmissions during times of bad coverage can be avoided. Simulations have been performed by using a dynamic UMTS simulation tool to derive the performance. From this it is shown how the setting of the parameters, such as the downlink signal quality threshold and the retry waiting time, will influence the call duration and the transmit power of the M2M data transmission.
