Abstract:
Since its introduction LTE has rapidly gained worldwide acceptance and widespread deployment. As one of the most recent developments Voice over IP over LTE (VoLTE) is gaining huge momentum in the industries. A fundamental question always raised by mobile network operators is addressing voice quality and the need of codec rate adaptations in various different radio frequency conditions. In this paper we investigate the trade-off of voice quality (represented as POLQA MOS scores) vs. codec rates, radio link isolation (path loss) and in mobility conditions. Mouth-to-Ear delay results round up these investigations.
