Abstract:
To develop compact and efficient electrical drives, the motor's thermal behavior needs to be taken into account during the design process. The electromagnetic utilization and the thermal behavior of an electrical motor depend on each other. Compared to conventional electrical drives, ironless permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors do not possess any iron losses, offering to achieve a different steady-state operational behavior. To determine the temperature distribution of the electrical drive, a three-dimensional model is created and a numerical calculation is performed. The process of the thermal calculation is introduced and the results are compared to the measured thermal characteristics of functional models.
