Abstract:
An effective way to prevent grid insecurity is the usage of remedial actions by the adjustment of electrical loads. In particular, utilizing the flexible charging process of electric vehicles (EV) can provide additional reserves for a secure system operation in future. This article proposes general requirements to the utilization of flexible loads as part of remedial actions. Furthermore a method for the determination of the flexible capacity range for electric vehicles according to the mentioned requirements is proposed. Further numerical case studies will be performed to analyze the characteristics of the designed method based on realistic data of charging processes. Under a practical point of view the utilization is also limited by grid restriction through equipment loading capacity. Hence the proposed method taking into account these limitation. In the end it will be shown which amount of flexible capacity range can be provided for German Transmission grid.
