Abstract:
This paper gives an overview of the Energy System Development Plan (ESDP), an ongoing research project of RWTH Aachen and Siemens AG Corporate Technology with focus on multimodal energy system modelling and technology impact assessment. For the first time all distributed and central energy conversion units of an entire country (in this paper Germany) are modelled together in the European Multimodal Market Simulation (EMMS) model. This joint modelling of the holistic distributed and the central energy system allows a systematic evaluation of flexibilities in generation, load and storage for an enhanced integration of renewable energies (REN). Furthermore, established and new technological options for energy conversion and transport (grids) are evaluated under different scenarios for the energy supply until 2035.
