Abstract:
The project “Smart Grid Integration” within the leading-edge cluster Electric Mobility South-West in Germany investigates concepts of controlling electric vehicle charging that address both user comfort and grid overload. The work is based on the Traffic Light Control (TLC, “Netzampel”) framework and aims to contribute to the design of the yellow TLC phase to maintain power system stability. To this end, we first describe the use of flexibility for power systems. We then propose an architecture and a method description with a formalization for the DSO to procure flexibilities from EV aggregators in local areas. Using numerical simulations, we find that by utilizing the proposed flexibility procurement auction, a DSO may greatly improve upon a reference scenario with traditional balancing cost. Conclusions will be used to further investigate EV and aggregated flexibilities and to develop a demonstrator. In addition, results will be placed within the ongoing political discussion (§14a EnWG).
