Abstract:
The Naval Research Laboratory recently developed an X-band airborne MSAR (Multichannel Synthetic Aperture Radar) test bed system that consists of 32 along-track phase centers through the use of two transmit horns and 16 receive antennas. This system was deployed in September 2014 and again in October 2015 to perform extensive and systematic data collections on a variety of maritime targets under different environmental conditions. This paper presents a description of the system, some image results, and the results of coherent analyses to characterize a variety of moving backscatter sources; especially ships and shoaling ocean waves.
