Abstract:
Metrology, the scientific study of measurement, is often used in the automotive industry as a means of quality control. This ensures that vehicles adhere to the highest standards – maximising customer satisfaction and ensuring product success. To this end, it is the aspiration of the automotive industry to continuously improve upon existing quality measures. Even in modern times, advanced optical quality-measurement equipment requires high levels of human intervention for operation. This is because fully-automated solutions often result in high installation and operational costs. To maximise efficiency and minimise cost, measurement engineers wish to develop a semi-automatic quality-measurement process that integrates the sensory perception of human beings with the precision and program reusability of a robot.
