Abstract:
This paper proposes a holistic wide area monitoring and control concept for the reliable and secure operation of future transmission systems. The concept particularly considers the coordinated interaction of active distribution networks with the transmission grid in order to use the flexibility of distributed generators and flexible loads to support the operational stability and security of the transmission network. For this purpose, a coordination framework and a system architecture for the interaction of wide area monitoring, protection and control systems, distributed autonomous substation controllers and active distribution network monitoring and control systems are proposed. Further, a communication architecture to support the suggested concept is discussed.
