Abstract:
The Internet of Things (IoT) is happening all around us, not the least within the home. With the “Internet of Things” we mean that more and more devices other than the classic PC and TVs are being connected to the Internet. That started in an operator-assisted and -managed way, with devices such as set-top-boxes and phones. Nowadays, however, many of those devices and also many other types of devices such as tablets, thermostats, energy meters, lamp systems, home automation, washing machines, motion sensors, and personal health devices, are bought by consumers in the (web-)shop and are connected via the unmanaged Internet to a third-party service provider’s system. An example of such a system is the highly popular Nest intelligent thermostat.
