Abstract:
The smart grid incorporates advanced concepts, such as Demand Side Management (DSM) algorithms and new applications, to control the power grid. However, not only the power grid plays a vital role in the smart grid, but also heat and communication networks. The main target of SiENA (Simulating Energy Network Applications) is to address this challenge and to provide a simulation platform for (distributed) DSM algorithms. It is capable of co-simulating power, heat and communication. Household appliances and future energy prosumers are modelled using a realistic data basis. It has a modular and scalable architecture for easy integration of new components and algorithms. A simulation showcase introduces a privacy-friendly distributed DSM algorithm which is capable of managing shiftable, switchable and adaptable devices.
