Abstract:
The development and commercial introduction of extruded HVDC cable systems started in the 1990’s at the 80 kV level. After the commercial deliveries of 150, 200 and 320 kV cable systems (cable and accessories such as joints and terminations), the voltage level of qualification is presently 525 kV. Following the decision of the Federal Government, that the north-south HVDC corridors shall be executed preferential as underground cables, the cable technology puts all stakeholders in the focus of interest. The paper describes ABB’s experiences in DC underground cable projects worldwide.
