Abstract:
The Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) is developing a fully electrical research vehicle which uses two sidesticks as steering input devices for the driver. Both sidesticks measure the force impressed by the driver and return the resulting steering angle by means of an electric machine. The system can thus be said to represent a smart actor. This article aims to give a system overview for the current working prototype’s sidesticks with a focus on electronics hardware and software. The technical and electrical setup is explained and major hardware and software components are presented, including a brief introduction to the safety concept.
