Abstract:
The new and novel approach shows a solution to implement a side-view application in automotive radar systems without being limited by the usual trade-off of aperture limitation. The side of the PCB is used for the integration of antennas with a beam orthogonal to that of the main antennas. Simulations show a good matching for the designated 76-77 GHz automotive radar frequency band. Impedance matching better than -10dB as well as maximum realized gain of 3.2 dB is achieved with a single patch antenna element. This allows a new novel approach in the implementation of applications like pedestrian, cyclist and blind spot detection where near-range targets are to be detected.
