Abstract:
Energy efficiency should include circuit power that increases with the number of antennas and with the sum rate. We fix the number of user equipments and require equal target rates per user equipment to ensure fairness. We approximate the rate function of quadrature amplitude modulation to allow convex optimization. We compare a single base station deployment to distributed base station deployments which use network MIMO in an indoor office scenario. Maximum energy efficiency is achieved for a small number of base station antennas. The distribution of antennas plays an important role for energy efficiency.
