Abstract:
Model based design of embedded systems using virtual prototypes is widely adopted for the design space exploration. Knowing the real-time power consumption is important for power analysis and optimization, e.g. analyze potential disturbances in the power distribution grid e.g. due to crosstalk or ground bounce. However, existing high level power modeling methods cannot provide sufficient information for such analysis, particularly for the system with mixed-signal circuits integrated. In this work, we propose a system level modeling approach that enables simulating power consumption of mixed-signal systems in a dynamic way. To this end, extensions are added to the state-based estimation approach to model the intricate power consuming behaviors. Our approach is evaluated on a digital voltage controlled oscillator. With this approach, accurate and realistic power consumption information in the mixed-signal circuits can now be obtained at the system level.
