Abstract:
Massive installation of volatile renewable energy sources, decommissioning of conventional power plants as well as large-scale electricity trading create large and unprecedented power transits. Thus, grid operation will become more challenging and the risk of emergency situations or blackouts increases. This paper describes the development of a 2025 operational Central European transmission system model to investigate new grid restoration strategies with high shares of renewable generation.
