Abstract:
The transition of the energy system towards a system based on renewable energies requires a change of our current system planning and operation strategies. Most of the distributed energy generators are connected to the distribution grids, which requires significant grid enforcement already today. Thus future distribution grids need to be operated smart and efficient (e.g. by full observability in the medium-voltage grids), utilizing available flexibilities from generators and loads as well as available switching possibilities in the grid. This paper presents a systemic approach for the automation of medium-voltage grids by implementation of actors and sensors in substations as part of a standardized technical concept. The concept is rolled out to a high number of substations at Westnetz and practical field experiences are illustrated and evaluated. Finally the necessary further steps for the development of the systemic solution are shown.
