Abstract:
Due to a high share of renewable energy sources located in the distribution grid new approaches for selective frequency stabilization considering the actual status of the electrical grid and decentralized power supply must be researched. Using information and communication technology ancillary services for frequency stabilization can be provided to realize a long-term system protection considering new concepts of load coordination in distribution grids. Therefore, new concepts must be applied in future grids to ensure a selective load shedding where a minimum of distributed energy resources are shed in case of underfrequency. In this paper, novel approaches for underfrequency relays in distribution grids are proposed to face the challenges of future grids.
