Abstract:
The TRACE project is a European industrially oriented research project. The core idea of TRACE is to define a mechanism and/or a methodology for using Consumer Electronics (CE) components in automotive application. Two aspects are the driving forces: on the one hand, a specific development of automotive-grade circuits creates a significant delay, which increases the delay of introducing new technologies in the car. This leads to an even larger discrepancy of the introduction time between mobile devices and automotive electronics. On the other hand, the requirements concerning computing power for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are growing so fast, that there is no way to avoid CE components, e.g. for video data processing. Technically, there are many aspects which influence the transfer decision, e.g. design rules, solder processes, housing, and many other, which are worked on in the TRACE project. The outcome of the technical evaluation determines whether the component is suitable for automotive application or not. For comparing two units, it is necessary to provide a database providing all relevant data, evaluate the database with respect to certain parameters, e.g. cost, reliability, ranges, and finally compare two versions to check for compatibility with the predefined values. In this paper, we will describe the structure and different information types, which are necessary to formalize the TRACE concept.
