Abstract:
Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies will be key for vehicles to communicate with each other and everything around them - enabling safer, more autonomous vehicles of future intelligent transport systems (ITS). As an interactive communication sensor, V2X complements the capabilities of other autonomous driving assistance system (ADAS) sensors. While traditionally, the IEEE 802.11p standard provided the foundation for basic safety applications, the new cellular V2X (C-V2X) standard established by the 3rd Generation Partnership project (3GPP) improves range and reliability for enhanced safety services and brings new capabilities for autonomous driving with its strong evolution path towards the fifth generation (5G) of mobile communication systems. This paper introduces C-V2X technology and provides example use cases currently envisioned by telecommunication and automotive industries.
