Abstract:
Currently there is a debate about the infrastructure requirements for 5G mobile networks. In this paper the number of 5G antenna sites is estimated by means of an analytical model in order to provide a stable fixed wireless access (FWA) service to all households in Germany with a downstream bitrate of 1 Gbit/s comparable to a FTTB/FTTH service. It is assumed that an indoor provision is required and no outdoor antennas are used. As a rough estimate it is found, that millions of 5G antenna sites will be required, which might not be cost efficient.
