Abstract:
Partial discharge measurements are performed at manipulated 12kV cable connectors. Electrical and fiber optic sensors are applied to partial discharge acoustic emissions. The intention is to prove the functionality and adequate sensitivity of a fiber optic sensor setup under close-to-reality conditions. Due to the nature of structure-borne sound, the acoustic emissions show different physical properties than electrical impulses. Therefore, specific signal processing is developed and applied to the acquired data. After filtering and a cross correlation algorithm, peaks are reliably detectable. Phase resolved patterns are created out of the measurement data of both sensors. Similar phase and amplitude behaviour of electrical and fiber optic data is identified.
