Abstract:
Optical GEO feeder links are a promising solution to overcome the bottleneck which is present in current implementations based on RF technology. However, channel impairments influencing the optical link need to be addressed to achieve a stable system. Transmitter diversity in a multiple-in / single-out configuration may be used to stabilize the optical data uplink. In this paper, we evaluate a bandwidth efficient transmitter diversity scheme, called phase-division in bit-time. After an introduction of the scheme, a system simulation will be presented. Results are given in terms of achievable BER versus Signal-To-Noise Ratio, considering the optical ground-to-satellite fading channel.
