Abstract:
We consider electronic dispersion compensation for a fiber-optic transmission with a direct-detection receiver. The power efficiency of the block linear equalizer (BLE) based on the zero-forcing criterion is compared to the one based on the minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) criterion for M-ASK modulation with M = 2; 4; 8. Furthermore we enlighten performance trade-offs between the direct method and the iterative implementation, and show that the bit error ratio of an iterative BLE is lower-bounded by the one of the MMSE-BLE.
