Abstract:
This paper introduces an analytical approach to estimate the eddy current losses in the rotor. The model is based on the idea of separating the massive hollow shaft into strips of equal size. After the analysis of the air-gap field, the eddy current in each cage-strip of the model can be determinated, thus enabling the calculation of total eddy current losses in the rotor. Finally, simulation results based on the finite-element method (FEM) and the results of the analytic simulation tool are compared. This comparison shows that this kind of analytical approach is suitable for a good estimation of rotor eddy current losses for super high speed PMSMs with massive rotor structure.
