Abstract:
As we enter the era of autonomous driving, reliable protection of pedestrians and cyclists becomes a crucial issue. In the EU funded project 5GCAR we successfully demonstrated 5G radio-based positioning with timesynchronized antenna signals enriched with road user trajectory estimation by a Particle Filter and a collision warning system. In this paper we present experimental results from a live demonstration on the test track in Linas-Montlhéry, France. In the 5GCAR demonstration we showed that collision alerts are always released when the driver must react to prevent a collision. False alarms were not received. As it was not possible to conduct enough experiments to validate the system reliability with the 5GCAR demonstrator, we complement our analysis with simulation results showing that 5G radio-based positioning offers tools to make our roads safer by improved infrastructure.
