Abstract:
Embedded HVDC converters have the characteristic of being able to quickly adjust their operating points. This flexibility can be used in system operation to respond to fault conditions and support the AC system. This work investigates the influence of reactive power provision for preventive as well as curative optimization for an AC-HVDC-system. A Preventive Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow (PSCOPF) and a Curative Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow (CSCOPF) calculation are performed respectively with and without considering the VSC reactive power operating points. Selected case studies show the impact of reactive power optimization on system security.
