Abstract:
This paper presents a novel linear motor based on a modified Planetary Motor approach. The so-called Planetary Motor is a multi-rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) first introduced in 2017. Due to its design and its interconnection, the Planetary Motor acts like a common three-phase PMSM and can be operated easily by using a standard voltage source inverter. To enable a linear motion the common Planetary Motor approach must be modified regarding its stator windings. The bearing of the carriage can be realised in such a way, that no additional bearings except those of the rotors are necessary. Measurements of the electrical and mechanical systems are presented to evaluate the performance of the novel linear Planetary Motor approach.
