Abstract:
This paper describes the system design of Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar-3 (PALSAR-3) onboard Advanced Land Observing Satellite-4 (ALOS-4). ALOS-4, the successor to ALOS-2, has improved observation performance with both high resolution and wide observation swath. High resolution (3m), wide swath (200km) imaging is achieved by implementing SAR techniques, namely phase spoiling, digital beamforming (DBF) in the elevation direction, and multiple transmit channel (MTC). In this paper, the concept and the hardware design for the realization of each new SAR technique applied to ALOS-4 will be explained. The flight model performance of ALOS-4 concludes the paper.
