Abstract:
To advance robotics systems e.g., regarding their cognitive capabilities, distributed systems technologies and cloud computing are increasingly adopted creating complex robotics system structures. To effectively design vertical and horizontal robotic solutions, frameworks and reference models are needed. In this paper, a robotic system and an intelligent edge reference model is presented. It is applied to a mobile inspection robot system scenario. Moreover, a test bed is described that has been used to verify taken design choices. The test bed combines state-of-the-art edge and cloud computing approaches with open-source robotic software and industry standard communication solutions.
