Abstract:
The demand for linear electromagnetic actuators is increasing in the control actuation system of new generation minimunitions and small-sized hydraulic pumps. Over the years, various voice coil actuators have been designed for linear actuation to operate at high frequencies. In moving magnet actuators, which is a type of voice coil actuator, the magnetic behaviour of the shaft material strictly affects the actuator performance. In this study, a moving magnet actuator was designed using permanent magnets, coil, and shaft, then the influence of shafts that were produced from different soft magnetic materials, on actuator performance was investigated. A significant increase in actuator performance has been achieved using Alloy-49 material as an actuator shaft, which is an iron-nickel alloy.
