Abstract:
Coming mobile network generations can realize data rates of 100 Gbit/s and above only by using orders of magnitude higher carrier frequencies than the ones in the single digit GHz range deployed by current generations. In order to achieve viable transmission link budgets with these higher carrier frequencies, the directivity of antennas must be increased significantly. We propose a novel concept which leverages the higher directivity to provide capacity increase by space division multiplexing. An energy efficient implementation of the new concept in combination with radio over fiber is presented.
