Abstract:
The calculation of short-circuit currents is a fundamental task in planning and operation of electrical power systems. The increasing penetration of the grid with power electronic devices influences the short-circuit currents and is therefore an important factor during short-circuit evaluations. The calculation of short-circuit currents is described in the standard IEC 60909-0:2016 [1]. This standard takes the short circuit contribution of power electronic devices into account. However, the calculation method is simplified and not all relevant applications are considered. This paper classifies the grid connected power electronic devices in typical applications. The respective short-circuit contributions are thoroughly analysed.
