Abstract:
Direct current (DC) distribution networks are recognized for their potential to improve efficiency and better support the integration of renewable energy sources compared to alternate current (AC) networks. However, a standardized reference grid for DC distribution has not yet been introduced in literature. This paper deals with the first step for the definition of a reference DC distribution system for research purposes. The paper presents a methodology to derive the fundamental supply task from well-known AC distribution networks. In this paper, the requirements for reference DC networks for research purposes in different research disciplines such as power systems, power electronics, optimization of energy utilization, and circuit breakers are examined. Then a method for deriving a reference network that meets these requirements is introduced. In this method, some well-known AC networks are considered based on their ability to satisfy the requirements of DC networks.
