Abstract:
The continuous transformation in the power system, affecting both generation and demand, as well as the grid, creates various new requirements for system operators in terms of system planning and operation which need to be reflected in different time horizons. Nevertheless, system operators are obliged to operate, maintain, and plan the power system in a reliable, secure and non-discriminative way [1]. To fulfill this task, different options and flexibilities can be used within various time horizons and across the voltage levels of the power system. As these tasks are of high complexity, tools are needed to support system operators within the different stages from planning to operation. The works at hand present an automated modular energy grid optimization (AMYGO) and its environment allowing to tackle the challenges spread over respective time horizons. AMYGO and its environment are based on the activities alongside different research projects and is continuously enhanced by the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE and the University of Kassel. Besides a general introduction to AMYGO, its environment and the optimization of power systems in the context of grid planning and grid operation, the paper presents various fields of application in which AMYGO was used.
