Realizing Digital Twins of Assets and Grids with the Help of AI Lessons Learned from an OEM Perspective

Abstract:
Artificial intelligence (AI) covers a broad range of technologies. As it is suitable for more complex tasks, there is a high interest in the power sector to apply AI. AI is also applied together with and as part of new upcoming approaches such as a digital twin (DT). This document provides an overview of these two topics before multiple use cases are presented from an OEM perspective. These use cases cover different topics, ranging from state estimation to asset management. At the end, the paper draws general conclusions about the feasibility and preconditions of the application of AI-algorithms for power systems.
