Challenges and results of six-step operation in automotive traction drives

Abstract:
The paper will summarize the results gained by the implementation and application of a six-step control algorithm in an electric vehicle equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous machine and 2-level voltage-source inverter. Hereby, a detailed view on the control algorithm and measurement results will be provided and discussed. At the end the total loss savings of inverter and machine in comparison to a standard modulation are demonstrated.
