Abstract:
The proliferation of real-time multimedia services and the tremendous growth in the number of mobile users of such services have created a need for the efficient mobility support in current IP v4 networks. Work has already been done to tackle the known issues of Mobile IPv4, such as triangular routing and inefficient mobility support for real-time services. In this paper, a novel scheme is proposed to improve the performance of Mobile IPv4 with cross-layer design, which is designed specially to support delay-sensitive SIP-based real-time multimedia services. Results from experiments show a significant improvement in the overall throughput and a reduction in the handoff latency.
