Abstract:
In this paper we present an architecture designed to address scalability and performance in network management systems for 3G networks and beyond. We outline the reasons why current network management systems will fail as networks grow in size and complexity. We describe the inter-radio access technology handover data configuration management problem to identify specific requirements, and briefly outline the general problem in terms of use cases. We describe the current data management technologies and techniques being used in Grid computing. A novel O&M data management system architecture based on Grid computing technologies and concepts is proposed. Preliminary modelling approaches and results for the performance of the new architecture are presented. It is argued that the application of Grid computing data management to the domain of network management can provide for the evolution of scalable, high-performance future network management systems.
