Abstract:
The controlled release of small drug volumes is crucial for innovative methods in cancer treatment or pain therapy. We present a concept of an active microport that considerably extends the options of medical treatment since it offers the potential of an arbitrary, patient-specific release profile. For release control and detection of occlusion, a simple and economical method is demonstrated which is based on the specific properties of a pulsatile flow and utilizes one commercial pressure sensor only.
