Abstract:
Head Mounted Displays have the potential to increase the fire fighter's safety and make their work more efficient. Typical applications of Head Mounted Displays in the area of fire fighting are to display thermal imaging data or tactical information such as maps or navigation information. As fire fighters work under hazardous conditions they have to wear special equipment such as helmets and breathing masks. This makes an appropriate design of a Head Mounted Display for fire fighters especially challenging. In this paper we discuss the requirements of Head Mounted Displays for fire fighters and evaluate different design options.
