Backprojection algorithms have shown great success for processing of wide-angle and ultra-wideband lowfrequency SAR data. In the present paper, we investigate the applicability of the algorithms to narrow beamwidth microwave SAR data. Direct application of the original algorithms are shown to introduce azimuth ambiguities. It is found that the ambiguities are caused by backprojecting data outside the nominal antenna beamwidth. A modified algorithm including beamwidth limitation is proposed and shown not to produce ambiguities. We conclude that the fast backprojection algorithms may now be applied to narrow beamwidth microwave SAR.
