In this paper we investigate in detail the implications of scattering symmetry on the bistatic polarimetric coher ency matrix for random media and hence extend several well-known results from monostatic radar polarimetry theory. We then explore the possibility of extending the entropy/α approach, currently limited to monostatic systems, to the more general case of bistatic scattering. We conclude with an assessment of the structure of the bistatic coherency matrix for random surface and volume scattering.
