Abstract:
A great earthquake occurred on Oct. 23, 2004, in Chuetsu area, Niigata, Japan. This paper presents Π-SAR observation results in the disastrous region. Π-SAR is an airborne fully polarimetric SAR operative both in the X- and L-band with high resolution of 1.5 m by 1.5 m (X) and 3 m by 3 m (L). The various polarimetric images in the X- and L- band as well as decomposed ones by four-component decomposition are presented. The decomposed results are compared with ground truth pictures. It is emphasized that the decomposed image serves the detection of land slides and man-made targets, especially houses, in disastrous area.
