Abstract:
A four-component scattering power decomposition scheme is developed for polarimetric SAR image analysis based on the coherency matrix. The four-component consists of surface scattering, double bounce scattering, volume scattering, and helix scattering power. The coherency matrix is used to deal with non-reflection symmetric scattering case. The decomposition results agree with those of the covariance approach. The advantage of the cohrency matrix approach is explicit expressions of 4 scattering powers in terms of scattering matrix elements, which serve the interpretation of POLSAR data quantitatively.
