Abstract:
In polarimetric SAR images the detection and classification of urban structures within a background of natural (reflection-symmetric) areas is an important problem. Fully polarimetric information is needed to interpret such mixed type images. For this study, the complex circular-pol RR-LL correlation coefficient and the polarimetric orientation angle are investigated as indicators between natural and urban areas. The use of orientation angle images in urban area studies has also been proposed for applications involving detection of Faraday rotation effects and for improved SAR calibration algorithms.
