Abstract:
The Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) will support the calibration campaign for the ALOS satellite in 2006 with a number of point targets at several different locations. ASF has successfully calibrated processors for single polarized SAR datasets in C-Band (such as from RADARSAT-1, ERS-1 and ERS-2) and L-Band (such as from JERS-1). ALOS, with its L-Band SAR instrument PALSAR, will require polarimetric calibration and therefore a new generation of calibration targets is necessary to meet polarimetric requirements. This paper summarizes the practical needs for polarimetric calibration and describes the logistical efforts being carried out at ASF to support PALSAR calibration.
